Our Review:
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One is the best Harry Potter film to date. Yes, we know what you're thinking - "that's a difficult call to make!" But the truth is
all of the previous Potter films lacked the human emotion and sincerity present in the latest film. Wizards and broomsticks are very nice, but the characters are indeed human.
What we enjoyed most about the latest Harry Potter film was its amazingly real presentation. As we watched, we thought "Wow, this could actually happen in real life! I could
see myself there!" That's new for a Potter film. The previous six films didn't even come close. Sure, we loved the magical aura created by the films, however, they were just
that - magical.
We saw each member of the trio (Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger) at their finest hour throughout the film. As we watched, we were reminded that the characters
faced many of the same troubles we all face every day. Harry and Ron had their tension throughout the film, but in the end put their emotion aside to deal with
the daunting tasks ahead. Hermione once again kept a watchful eye over the two young wizards, in an almost nurturing way.
Lord Voldemort, played by Ralph Fiennes, was for the first time shown in great detail on the big screen. We saw his cold-hearted, evil tendencies in their entirety, and the
dismal reality of a "return to old, dark times." We were disappointed at the lack of footage showing Voldemort murdering James and Lily Potter in Godric's Hollow seventeen
years ago, as seen in the first film. Instead, however, we were greeted with a unique insight into just how mysterious and significant Godric's Hollow was in the past, and
present.
Overall, we enjoyed the film very much, and believe the cast and crew outdid themselves let again. We especially enjoyed the increasing prevalence of the Muggle world (e.g.
London) into the film for the first time. And we missed our good friend, Albus Dumbledore.
